Privacy policy
Switchbacks is built for one of the most private times in a person's life, so we keep as little as we can. This page explains what we collect, where it goes, and what you control.
What stays on your device
Your setup answers, what you write in setup, your sessions, your saved items and your notes are stored in your browser on the device you use. We don't keep an account copy of them on our servers. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, that information doesn't come with you.
What leaves your device, and why
- To write a reply. When the companion responds, the recent conversation and relevant context from your profile are sent through our relay to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate the reply. Our relay passes it through and does not log or store it.
- To take payment. Checkout is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe shares with us what we need to run your membership, such as your email address and whether your subscription is active.
- To send you a sign-in link. If you ask to restore your membership on a new device, we look up your email with Stripe and send a link through our email provider, Resend.
- If you contact us or ask about one-on-one mentorship. We receive what you send, along with your setup answers and what you wrote during setup (the form tells you this before you send), and keep it to respond to you.
- Running the website. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical information like IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your information or share it for advertising.
- We don't use advertising trackers on the site or in the app.
- We don't read your sessions.
Your choices
- You can see and copy your setup answers from your profile in the app, and delete everything by choosing Start over or clearing your browser data.
- You can cancel your membership anytime from your profile, which opens Stripe's billing page.
- To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email us.
Safety
Switchbacks is not a crisis service and doesn't monitor conversations. If something you write suggests you may be in danger, the app shows crisis resources. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 in the US, or call 911 if you're in danger.
Who it's for
Switchbacks is for adults 18 and older.

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date above.
